Flags on campus lowered for Professor Emeritus Batchelor
Flags on campus are lowered and will remain lowered until Friday in memory of Professor Emeritus Barry Batchelor.
Dr. Batchelor taught civil engineering at Queen’s for 27 years before retiring in 1993. In addition to his long academic career, Dr. Batchelor was a champion of race relations within the local and national communities, a staunch advocate of education, and an avid golfer.
A memorial service in celebration of Dr. Batchelor’s life will be held at the James Reid Funeral Home (1900 John Counter Boulevard, Kingston) on Thursday, June 16, at 2 pm with Reverend Brian Yealland officiating. A reception will follow in the James Reid Reception Centre.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations may be made to the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation (Cancer Centre of Southeastern Ontario) or the Afro-Caribbean Community Foundation of Kingston.
