Flags lowered for Professor Emeritus Beck
Flags on campus are lowered and will remain lowered until Monday, November 15 for Ivan Beck.
Dr. Beck came to Queen’s in 1966 as chairman of the Division of Gastroenterology at Hotel Dieu Hospital. He was soon promoted to professor of medicine in surgery and physiology.
Dr. Beck founded the Gastrointestinal Diseases Research Unit (GIDRU) at Queen’s University in 1982 and served as the director until 1993. He became a professor emeritus of medicine and physiology in 1989.
As an accomplished clinician, researcher and educator, Dr. Beck won countless national and international awards and served on several prestigious professional bodies during his career. He also mentored many clinicians and scientists over the course of his long and distinguished career.
The family will receive friends at James Reid Funeral Home (1900 John Counter Boulevard) on Friday, November 12 from 7 to 9 pm. A memorial will be held in the chapel on Saturday, November 13 at 2 pm followed by a reception.
In memory of Dr. Beck, donations to the Ivan T. Beck Research Prize in Digestive Diseases, Queen's University, Old Medical Building, Kingston, ON, K7L 3N6 or the Canadian Digestive Health Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
