Flags lowered for Professor Emeritus Gorman
Flags on campus are lowered in memory of W. Alan (Al) Gorman.
After serving in the RCAF from 1943-1946, Dr. Gorman earned his Ph. D. at McGill University in Geological Sciences. He began his teaching career at Queen’s University in 1955 and continued working with students until 2012. Over the course of his career he won several teaching awards including the Alumni Teaching award.
Dr. Gorman enjoyed playing hockey regularly with staff and students, who affectionately called him Elbows, continuing to play right up to the age of 82.
A celebration of his life is being held at 2:30 pm on January 18 in Wallace Hall at the John Deutsch University Centre at Queen’s. If desired, donations in memory of Dr. Gorman can be made to the department of Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering's Dr. W. A. Gorman Legacy Teaching Fund.
Messages of remembrance or condolence can be sent to remembering.uncle.al@gmail.com.
