Flags lowered for Professor Emeritus Green
Flags on campus are lowered and will remain lowered until Monday, November 8 in honour of Professor Emeritus Alan G. Green.
Professor Green (BA '57) graduated from Queen’s as the medalist in economics. He then did his PhD degree at Harvard University.
He joined the Queen's economics department in 1963 and remained there throughout his professional life. He retired in 1997 as emeritus professor, but continued to be active in teaching and research. During his academic career he also spent research sabbaticals at Harvard, Yale, the University of York (UK), and the Australian National University.
Professor Green was an major figure in Canadian economic history and also in the Queen’s community. He was a long-time chairman of the Queen’s pension board, and was instrumental in designing what became a highly successful pension plan. He also headed the team that directed the building of the Stauffer Library, and the renovation of the Douglas Library.
The family will receive friends at James Reid Funeral Home (1900 John Counter Boulevard) on Friday, November 5 from 4 to 6 pm. The funeral service will be held at St. George’s Cathedral (corner of King and Johnson Streets) on Saturday, November 6 at 11 am followed by internment at the Cataraqui Cemetery. A reception will follow at the University Club.
Memorial donations can be made to St. Mary’s of the Lake Hospital, 3 South Patient Care (cheques payable to the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation).
