Four student productions open in January

The play is the thing on campus this month. Four student productions open in January, bringing to the stage a variety of characters ranging from a mad scientist and his deranged groupies, to the Bothers Grimm’s Hansel and Gretel.

On January 13 at Convocation Hall, Queen’s Musical Theatre debuted their rendition of The Rocky Horror Show. The cult-classic musical follows the story of mad scientist, Dr. Frankenfurter, and his deranged “groupies” as they welcome the newly engaged couple, Brad and Janet, into their castle.

“The production has a cast of 16 and an 8-person onstage band,” says producer Emily Herczeg (BA'11). “It is a Rocky Horror Show unlike anything you've ever seen.” www.queensmusicaltheatre.net/RHSindex.php

From January 14-16, at the Grand Theatre in Kingston, Queen's Student Opera Company will perform the operatic version of Hansel and Gretel, by Engelbert Humperdinck.

“With a cast of mystical creatures, a live orchestra and ballet, this really is a show for audiences of all ages,” says Musical Director Christopher Bennett (BA’11). www.queensstudentoperacompany.com
