Fuel cell researcher honoured with leadership award
Brant Peppley has received the Community Leadership Award for his ongoing research on fuel cells. The award is presented annually by SWITCH, a non-profit, member-based organization dedicated to making Kingston a hub for sustainable energy.
Brant Peppley, Canada Research Chair in Fuel Cells“This is a wonderful award,” says Dr. Peppley, Canada Research Chair in Fuel Cells. “It’s pretty amazing that Kingston, as a community, has an organization like SWITCH and continues to support it. It says a lot about the attitudes and principles of our community – and that’s encouraging.”
Dr. Peppley is also the director of the Queen’s-RMC Fuel Cell Research Centre (FCRC) and a professor jointly appointed to the departments of Chemical Engineering and Mechanical and Materials Engineering in Queen’s Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science. His current work involves partnering with industry to come up with clean energy solutions.
“Brant’s been working on fuel cells for a long time,” says Tyson Champagne, Executive Director, SWITCH. “He’s gone through all the ups and downs of maintaining a research facility. He’s also been a big supporter of SWITCH since the beginning of this organization.”
SWITCH, which recently marked its 10th anniversary, works to connect people and organizations across the sustainable energy sector in the Kingston region. It was created in response to a question about what it would take to make Kingston a more attractive destination for clean energy companies. At the time, a local company making fuel cells served as an anchor for the newly created organization.
Dr. Peppley received his award earlier this month at the SWITCH Sustainable Energy Awards and Harvest Luncheon.
