Health researchers recognized for outstanding contributions
Susan Cole and David Lillicrap will be formally inducted into the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (CAHS) as fellows at a ceremony in Ottawa today.
“It’s always a great honour to have one’s work recognized by election to an Academy like the CAHS, but I’m acutely aware that this honour would not have happened without the tremendous contributions of the students and postdoctoral fellows who’ve been part of my research group over the years,” says Dr. Cole, professor in the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine, Canada Research Chair in Cancer Biology, and Queens’ deputy provost.
Dr. Cole’s research focuses on the investigation of mechanisms of resistance to natural product drugs that may be relevant to lung cancer and other human tumors.
Dr. Lillicrap, a professor in the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine and Canada Research Chair in Molecular Hemostasis, specializes in the molecular aspects of the blood coagulation system. His research projects range from an investigation of the mechanisms regulating production of the protein von Willebrand factor, to the development of gene therapy strategies for the inherited bleeding disease hemophilia.
CAHS fellows are individuals who have a history of outstanding performance in the academic health sciences in Canada and who are recognized by their peers nationally and internationally for their contributions to the field.
