Hospitality served national award
Queen’s is the first contract food service school to win the Canadian College and University Food Service Association’s (CCUFSA) Shine Award. Hospitality Services by Sodexo has been recognized for “$5 Fridays,” a popular staff and faculty program.
“The $5 Friday is about re-introducing Hospitality Services to faculty and staff, giving them a wonderful perk, and making sure that we are maximizing our facilities on campus,” says Joli Manson, General Manager of Hospitality Services.
The annual Shine Award, initiated in 2004, is presented to a CCUFSA member institution that exemplifies excellence in dining, hospitality and teamwork.
Initiated last year, $5 Fridays invite staff and faculty members to eat lunch at either Ban Righ or Leonard dining halls for just five dollars. The program was recently expanded to include all staff from nearby Kingston General Hospital, many of whom also work at Queen’s. Approximately 500 people participate in $5 Fridays each week.
“It’s become much, much greater than we thought it would be in terms of building a community,” says Ms Manson.
The Hospitality Services team will accept the award at CCUFSA’s annual conference, which will be held in Edmonton at the end of June.
