HR Associate V-P and Director of Labour Relations appointed
Two senior appointments in the Human Resources Department set in motion the implementation of recommendations of an independent HR review completed late last year.
Al Orth has been Acting Associate V-P (Human Resources) since the fall, and he is appointed to the role on a continuing basis effective February 1, 2011.
Lisa Newton is appointed to the new role of Director and Counsel, Employee and Labour Relations effective March 7, 2011.
"I am delighted to be continuing to work with Al and I am thrilled to welcome Lisa to Queen’s,” says Caroline Davis, V-P (Finance and Administration). “The breadth and depth of their experience in this critical area will ensure effective HR services for Queen’s employees.”
Mr. Orth is an accomplished labour/employee relations and HR professional. He has had a consultancy for the past decade and was previously a senior HR executive with several private sector organizations. He will lead Queen’s HR department and will strengthen and improve services based on the recommendations of last year’s review.
“I’m very pleased to be working with a committed and talented HR group and we will be moving forward on many fronts to become a more strategic business partner with units across campus,” says Mr. Orth.
As Acting Associate V-P at Queen’s, Mr. Orth has been at the table for the university in talks with staff unions. He will now be joined by Ms Newton.
Ms Newton comes to Queen’s from McMaster University, where she has led employee/labour relations. She previously was a national partner at Baker and McKenzie, LLP, specializing in labour and employment law.
