Human Resources unveils updated learning catalogue

Staff who aspire to improve their skills and deepen their knowledge can sign up for a variety of workshops and certificate programs offered by Human Resources (HR).

“We have tweaked some of our offerings and added new certificate programs and workshops in order to help as many staff members as possible meet their career goals,” says Shannon Hill, Learning and Development Specialist, Human Resources.

Some of the highlights of this year’s learning catalogue include:
• A revamped Administrative Professional at Queen’s (APAQ) certificate to better support the professional development needs of staff in administrative and support roles;
• A new APAQ Master Certificate to give administrative staff enhanced skills in the areas of strategic thinking, leadership styles, and business communication;
• Several new workshops on topics such as event planning and electronic file management; and
• A revised Email @ Queen’s workshop that now includes a discussion on the use of social media in the workplace.

In addition to the APAQ certificate, HR continues to offer the Certificate in International Perspectives and the Certificate in Workplace Communications. HR is also collaborating with the Equity Office to develop “From Diversity to Inclusion in the Workplace,” a new certificate program that is slated to begin in January.

Staff responded very enthusiastically last year to the expanded focus on personal health workshops, prompting HR, in partnership with Athletics and Recreation, to continue offering several different Lunch and Learn sessions and health promotion activities including a walking club and yoga classes.
