Mining department now officially the Robert M. Buchan Department of Mining
2009-12-03
The Queen's Department of Mining Engineering was officially renamed the Robert M. Buchan Department of Mining at a ceremony this week.
The department is named after alumnus and mining entrepreneur Robert M. Buchan, who generously donated $10 million to the department. The donation will help ensure that Queen’s continues to deliver leading-edge mining programs for generations. The gift is the largest single donation to mining education in Canadian history, and marks the first department at Queen’s to be named for an individual.
A plaque to commemorate the event will be placed under a new mining mural in the entrance of Goodwin Hall.
