New Manitoba Premier is Queen's alum

Greg Selinger, Manitoba’s 21st Premier, is a Queen’s graduate. He received a Professional Masters of Public Administration degree in 1996. He later received a PhD from the London School of Economics.

Premier Selinger won the leadership of the Manitoba NDP Party on October 17 after Gary Doer resigned and was appointed Canada’s Ambassador to the U.S.

Mr. Selinger had served as the province’s finance minister for a decade. He is expected to serve as Premier for at least two years. Manitoba has a fixed election date law and the next vote is scheduled for October 2011.
