Nine health staff to unionize
2010-06-28
Allied health professionals who are part of Queen’s Family Health Team have voted to join the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU), while the team’s clinical clerical staff have voted against certification.
Both groups cast ballots on June 23.
All of the Team’s 12 clinical clerical staff voted and the result was 9-3 against unionization.
Of the Team's nine allied health professionals, six voted and the result was 4-2 to unionize. This group includes team dieticians, pharmacists, social workers and registered practical nurses.
The timelines for notice to bargain and the bargaining process for negotiating a first collective agreement are spelled out in the Ontario Labour Relations Act.
