Peter Taylor receives Flynn Award
Peter Taylor is this year’s recipient of the T. Geoffrey Flynn Advancement Champion Award.
“Peter is a consummate advancement professional who has done it all—major gifts, the Campus Community Appeal, alumni education events and more,” says Principal Daniel Woolf.
Dr. Taylor has been a member of the Mathematics and Statistics department since 1969. His commitment to fundraising began with his first gift to the annual fund shortly after he joined the department, a practice that he has continued for more than 30 years.
“It’s an honour to receive this award because it combines advancement activities with the academic side of the university. I enjoy getting potential donors excited and involved in the wonderful academic challenges that we face right now,” says Dr. Taylor.
Throughout his career, Dr. Taylor has been part of many campus programs and meetings that promote teaching and alumni engagement. His MiniU sessions have been enthusiastically received by all participants.
Dr. Taylor has supported fundraising efforts both at the department level and university-wide. He was instrumental in establishing the Coleman Fellowships that have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in support of post-graduate instructors in mathematics. He has also been actively engaged in the Campus Community Appeal for many years and currently serves as the faculty co-chair.
The award, named in honour of biochemistry professor Geoffrey Flynn, is presented annually to a member of the Queen’s community who has made a significant contribution to linking Queen’s advancement activities with research and teaching excellence at the university.
