'Plan Your Campus' invites you to share your experiences of campus

2013-03-18

On March 26 students, staff and faculty will have an opportunity to share their thoughts about the Queen’s campus and learn about the Campus Master Plan (CMP) project currently underway at the university.

Plan Your Campus is a CMP information exchange event, aimed at sparking a dialogue about how well the Queen’s campus meets the needs of our community. Simply drop by Student Street in the Queen’s Centre on Tuesday, March 26 between 11 am and 2 pm to view information panels, meet the planning team and share how you experience your campus.

“This event is a great way to get involved in the campus planning process,” says AMS President Doug Johnson. “It is important that students get out, learn about the CMP and share their ideas for how our campus should develop over the coming years.”

The university is working closely with a planning team lead by Urban Strategies Inc., an internationally recognized, Toronto-based planning and urban design firm. The team is currently in the process of consulting with the Queen’s and Kingston communities.

The new CMP will establish an engaging and attainable vision to guide how the university changes physically over the next 10 to 15 years.

In addition to attending Plan Your Campus, members of the Queen’s community can comment on a series of questions posted on the CMP blog, such as: What do you love about the Queen’s campus? What needs improvement? What would make getting around campus easier and safer? What kinds of spaces do you need more of?

“The new Campus Master Plan is an opportunity to create a vision for how the Queen’s campus can develop strategically, to better serve everyone who uses it,” says Jo-Anne Brady, Vice-Provost (Planning and Budgeting). “Its success will be impacted by input from students, staff, faculty and the broader community throughout the process.”

Open houses are planned in May and October in order to give the Queen’s and Kingston communities the opportunity to participate in the CMP process.
