Queen’s earns top marks in Globe and Mail’s annual ranking
Queen’s continues to lead the pack in the Globe and Mail’s annual university ranking, earning ‘A’ grades in everything from student satisfaction and quality of teaching to its reputation among employers.
"It is always pleasing when rankings such as this one affirm the high quality of the student experience we seek to deliver," says Provost Alan Harrison, "especially when the results reflect the assessment of the students themselves.”
Queen’s topped the list in two notable categories this year: ‘quality of teaching and learning’ and ‘reputation with employers,’ earning ‘A+’ in both categories. Queen’s was also the top ranked medium-sized university (enrolment of 10,000-22,000) in buildings and facilities (‘A+’), recreation and athletics (‘A+’), student/faculty interaction (‘A’), and information technology (‘A’). The university was also the only mid-sized institution to earn an ‘A’ for its libraries, holding steady with last year’s ranking.
“The A-grade is a tribute to the dedicated people who ensure the library provides the academic services and information resources our students need to succeed,” says University Librarian Martha Whitehead.
This year’s Canadian University Report is based on feedback from 31,000 current undergraduate students. They were asked to respond to approximately 100 questions on everything from campus atmosphere and student life, to quality of teaching, academic resources, and athletics programs at their universities.
Queen’s was also awarded ‘A’ grades for most satisfied students (‘A-‘), campus atmosphere (‘A’), career preparation (‘A-‘), city satisfaction (‘A-‘), work-play balance (‘A-‘) , student residence (‘A-‘).
The Globe and Mail Canadian University Report ranks universities in four size categories, from large (enrolment over 22,000) to very small (enrolment under 4,000).
