Queen's honours benefactor with castle birthday
Queen’s benefactor Alfred Bader marked his 85th birthday with a Canada Day celebration at the Bader International Study Centre at Herstmonceux; the English castle he donated to Queen’s.
Queen’s birthday gift to Dr. Bader, in recognition of his continuing generosity to the school, is to rename the castle in his honour. Since Queen’s took ownership in 1993, it’s grown to be “the envy of virtually every institution of higher education in Canada, with a learning environment second to none,” said Principal Tom Williams.
Witnessing the growth and success of the study centre fills Dr. Bader with a tremendous sense of satisfaction.
“I try to help Queen’s in so many ways. Queen’s was so wonderful to me.”
Dr. Bader spent the day surrounded by family, friends, students, faculty and staff at the castle. The celebration was marked with a plaque-unveiling and a concert.
