Queen's News Centre goes mobile

Smartphone users now have the ability to stay in touch with Queen’s wherever they go, thanks to a new mobile site that features access to the Queen’s News Centre (QNC), events calendar, people search and more.

“This will enable everyone to get the latest Queen’s news on their mobile devices,” says E-Communications Manager Robin Moon. The QNC is the Queen’s site that is most often accessed using mobile devices.

The new site – http://m.queensu.ca – allows Blackberry, iPhone, Android and other Smartphone users to easily access information in a mobile-friendly format. Senior Web Developer Graham Stratford and the other members of the electronic communications and creative services teams have been working on the new site for several months.

“You have to make a design that works across all mobile platforms, which is tricky,” says Mr. Stratford. “We’re happy to get feedback and will provide a feedback link so users can let us know what the experience is like and provide their comments, both positive and constructive.”

The site also features links to the Queen’s Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube channels, alerts and safety notices, and Principal Woolf’s blog.
