Students continue significant contribution to the Queen's Centre
At its January 19th, the AMS Assembly voted to approve the final transfer to the university of student-fee contributions towards the Queen’s Centre project. This significant investment by students to the Queen’s Centre, which opened its doors in December 2009, will total approximately $10.6 million.
“On behalf of the university I want to extend my appreciation to the AMS and its members for their support of student life at Queen’s,” says Alan Harrison, Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic).
In recognition that the original vision of the Queen’s Centre project was not feasible in the current fiscal environment, the AMS and the university agreed that the students’ original financial commitment needed to be adjusted.
“Despite our mutual disappointment that the Queen’s Centre project was not completed as envisioned, the university and the AMS continue to believe in the importance of a vibrant student life centre to support the broader learning environment at Queen’s,” says Provost Harrison.
A memorandum of understanding between the AMS and the university specifies the revised amount of the student contribution, while providing for further investment into other student life spaces, including the John Deutsch University Centre.
