Ten year employment equity review released

The Council on Employment Equity (CEE) and the Equity Office have released Achieving Employment Equity at Queen’s Part 3: Ten Years in Review.

This report is the third in a series of joint publications by the Queen’s Equity Office and the Council on Employment Equity, highlighting employment equity at the university.

“The analysis that is outlined in Achieving Equity III relating to the employment occupational groups at Queen’s, indicates key areas in need of attention,” says Irène Bujara, Director, Queen’s Equity and Human Rights Offices. “Working to improve in these areas in turn allows us to meet our obligations under the Federal Contractors Program (FCP).”

The report illustrates the representation of the designated groups – women, Aboriginal peoples, racialized persons and persons with disabilities – in the workforce population at Queen’s over the past decade. It examines the yearly gap between the expected rates, which come from 2006 census data, and the actual representation rates at Queen’s within the various occupational groups over the last 10 years.

The report aims to highlight areas in which the university has made progress as well as areas of concern affecting the four designated groups.

Queen’s FCP action group, which was formed to address the gaps identified in Achieving Equity Part 2, will look at ideas and initiatives to help address those areas of concern. The group, chaired by Associate Vice-Principal (Human Resources) Al Orth, exists to better inform the process of developing and implementing special measures to address the gaps identified by the group for consideration by senior officers of the University.

The first publication, Achieving Employment Equity at Queen’s, Part 1: Challenges, introduced the concept of employment equity and its application to Queen’s. The second publication, Achieving Employment Equity at Queen’s, Part 2: Snapshots, compared the diversity of the Queen’s workforce population to the diversity of the three domestic recruitment pools (Canada, Ontario and the Kingston Census Metropolitan Area).
