Principal announces provost search committee
Principal Daniel Woolf has convened and will chair a committee to advise him on the appointment of a new provost and vice-principal (academic). Dr. Robert Silverman’s term as the inaugural holder of this position ends June 30, 2011.
The Principal invites members of the Queen’s community to submit their views on this appointment and on the operation of the Provost’s Office.
The advisory committee has been selected with the assistance of University Senate. The committee members are:

Associate vice-principal and dean of student affairs search committee
Jason Laker’s term as associate vice-principal and dean of student affairs ends June 30, 2011. Dr. Laker has recently announced his plans to leave the university effective July 30, 2010.
In accordance with the procedures established by Senate, a committee chaired by Bob Silverman, Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic), will be established to advise the Principal on the present state and future prospects of the Student Affairs portfolio and on the selection of the Associate Vice-Principal and Dean. Suggestions for membership on the advisory committee are requested and should be submitted in writing to the Office of the Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic) by August 6, 2010. Submissions should be sent via email to firstname.lastname@example.org or mailed to Room 353, Richardson Hall, Queen’s University.
Members of the University community are also invited to offer comments on the present state and future prospects of the student affairs portfolio and the deanship. These comments should be submitted in writing to Bob Silverman, Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic), Room 353, Richardson Hall or via email to email@example.com. Directorship, Bader International Study Centre
Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic) Robert Silverman announces on behalf of Principal Daniel Woolf the membership of the committee that will advise him on the present state and future prospects of the Bader International Study Centre (BISC) and on the selection of a new executive director. Dr. David Bevan has indicated that he does not wish to be considered for another term as executive director.

Group Life and Health Premiums for Employees
The group insurance premiums change each July 1. The new rates at July 1, 2010 have been adjusted to reflect Queen’s utilization and current cost trends. The new rates are as follows:
The University will continue to pay 100% of premium costs for all active employee groups. This includes coverage for Out of Canada emergency care and Vision Care.
Retiree supplementary medical rates will remain unchanged.
Active employee rates for this benefit will decrease to $5.42 per month for single coverage and $14.13 per month for family coverage. Retiree rates will decrease to $5.80 for single coverage and $15.11 for family coverage. This benefit is fully paid by participating employees.
The University will continue to pay 100% of premium costs for all active QUFA Members, General Support Staff and Research Contract employees.
For all other active employee groups, the rates for this benefit will remain the same at $11.91 per month for single coverage and $31.01 per month for family coverage. These rates represent 25% of the total premium with the remaining 75% paid by Queen's University.
Basic Life Insurance
The rate for basic life insurance will decrease to $0.213/$1,000 of coverage per month. Participating employees will pay $0.096/$1,000 of coverage per month while the University will pay $0.117/$1,000 of coverage per month.
Optional Life Insurance
The rates for optional life insurance have remained the same and are as follows:
This benefit is fully paid by participating employees.
Long Term Disability
The rate for long term disability will remain the same at 1.26% of a monthly salary. This benefit is fully paid by participating employees. As a result, income from this benefit is tax free.
