Angela Merkel re-elected as Chancellor of Germany after winning 41.5 per cent of the vote: Queen's University expert

2013-11-12

European Union expert Grant Amyot is available to talk about the re-election of Angela Merkel as the Chancellor of Germany. She achieved far higher than the opinion polls had predicted and achieved the best showing by the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in nearly 20 years.

The CDU did so well that it fell just 5 seats short of forming a majority government.

Angela Merkel is the only political leader in the Euro zone to be returned to office by the voters since the crisis broke.  This is thanks to her skill at reassuring Germans that she is a safe, reliable manager in these troubled times," says Dr. Amyot.
