Attitude towards homophobia in sports is changing: Queen's University professor
Queen’s University School of Kinesiology and Health Studies professor Mary Louise Adams is available to comment on Toronto Blue Jay Yunel Escobar playing Saturday’s game with a homophobic slur written in Spanish under his eyes.
Dr. Adams, whose expertise is sexuality and gender in sports, can comment on the public taking a position that Escobar was wrong and should be punished for his actions because homophobia is wrong. She feels that ten years ago this wouldn’t have been the case. She added there is still a huge distance to be covered but the public is beginning to take the issue of homophobia very seriously.
Please note Dr. Adams is available after 3:45pm for interviews but is unavailable after 4:30 pm.
To arrange an interview, please contact communication officers Anne Craig at 613-533-2877 or anne.craig@queensu.ca or Michael Onesi at 613.533.6000 ext. 77513 or michael.onesi@queensu.at Queen’s University News and Media Services Department in Kingston, Ont., Canada.
