BlackBerry problems & RIM's future


Queen’s University marketing professor John Pliniussen and School of Business Associate Director of Marketing Neil Bearse are available to comment on the disruption of service to BlackBerry customers and its effect on the company’s image and future.

“RIM announced today that the worldwide problem that has caused headaches for BlackBerry users has been fixed, but can RIM fix their damaged image and reputation?” said Mr. Bearse, an expert in web design, social media, new media, search engine optimization, and digital marketing. “I think the problems for RIM are just beginning. RIM hasn’t had much luck lately with their Playbook and their subscription music service. With the release of Apple’s iOS 5 and imminent iPhone4S release – plus the goodwill sentiment lingering in the air surrounding the death of Apple icon Steve Jobs – RIM faces an uphill battle in convincing customers not to leave the company for Apple or Android.”

Dr. Pliniussen, is a marketing professor who specializes in technology and business innovation, agrees RIM’s reputation has taken a hit.

“RIM's BlackBerry RIM has become the Blackout-Berry. The lights are fading quickly as RIM tries to fix the longest known wireless disruption while Apple launches its new iCloud app,” says Dr. Pliniussen.
