Building permits report for February

2010-04-09

Queen’s University School of Urban and Regional Planning professor John Andrew is available to discuss Statistics Canada’s building permit report that was released Wednesday.

“The surge in building permits issued in February 2010 when one looks at the most meaningful year-over-year changes is indicative of the strong recovery underway in both the residential and commercial real estate sectors in Canada,” Professor Andrew says. “These dramatic surges are being supported by low interest rates, a return to liquidity in the debt capital markets, and increased demand for space due to general economic recovery in most regions. Clearly, developers are responding to strong market fundamentals and a renewed sense of optimism in both the residential and non-residential real estate sectors."

Professor Andrew specializes in real estate and is also the director of Queen’s University’s Executive Seminars on Corporate & Investment Real Estate.
