A new federal report is calling for the creation of a national institute to promote and enhance democracy in countries abroad. Bruce Gilley, professor of political studies with an expertise in China’s politics, is available to discuss the report in general, and how it affects China.
He says China must figure prominently in any new Canadian initiatives to promote democracy abroad. “This could be a centre-piece of a more general reform of Canada's China policy.”
Dr. Gilley is the author of three university-press books on China and several book chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles.
