European Union reaches stalemate on fuel directive vote: Queen's University professor
Queen’s University policy studies professor Warren Mabee is available to comment on the European Union Parliament blocking passage of a proposed fuel quality directive that would label Alberta oil sand as a more carbon-intensive source of oil than conventional crude. The vote failed to win a majority.
“While the EU has put off final decision on a proposed fuel quality directive, the growing numbers of groups taking up an anti-oil sands position spells trouble for future market development,” says Dr. Mabee.
Dr. Mabee, who is the director of the Queen’s University Institute for Energy and Environmental Policy, has authored numerous studies examining policy for renewable energy options, and has provided expert advice to both federal and provincial governments on the development of strategies to reduce our reliance upon fossil energy sources.
