Facebook Privacy Settings
Facebook has just announced changes to some of their privacy settings. “These changes will allow users to customize who can see their information, creating privacy risks and vulnerabilities at an unprecedented level,” says Queen’s University PhD candidate Dan Trottier, who specializes in surveillance and social media.
“This is tied to a market struggle between Facebook and Twitter,” he explains. “In fact, the 'Everyone' feature is a direct attempt to co-opt Twitter's functionality. Ostensibly, this information may end up searchable via Google with the advent of public/searchable profiles.”
