Federal government's oilsands advisory panel

Queen’s University biology professor John Smol is available to discuss the formation of a new oilsands advisory board. In response to concerns about industrial pollution in the Athabasca River and connecting waterways, Environment Minister Jim Prentice has appointed an independent advisory panel of leading scientists, including Professor Smol, to review the design and management of related environmental systems.

Professor Smol is an award-winning biologist whose research areas include environmental degradation and recovery in lake systems, environmental change of Arctic lakes and the study of long-term environmental and climactic change in lakes from different regions.
