Northern Ireland negotiations

2010-03-19

In light of today’s first face-to-face negotiation between the polar extremes of Northern Ireland politics, Ian Paisley and Gerry Adams, Queen’s Political Studies professor John McGarry is available to discuss the political implications of this breakthrough for peacemaking.
“I have been predicting this for years - when virtually everyone else said it was unthinkable,” says McGarry.
John McGarry is an expert on the politics of Northern Ireland and studies ethnic and national conflict.  His academic work focuses on the design of political institutions in divided political systems, is a regular contributor to public media in Ireland, the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada.
