Oil sands monitoring announcement: Queen's University expert

Queen’s University expert John Smol is available to talk about the federal/Alberta government’s oil sands monitor plan that will be announced this afternoon.

Dr. Smol was one of six of the Canada’s leading scientists who were appointed to the federal oil sands advisory panel in November of 2010 that looked into the state of oil sands environmental research and monitoring.

Please note Dr. Smol will only be available to speak AFTER today’s press conference.

Dr. Smol is a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in environmental change. He is an award-winning biologist whose research areas include environmental degradation and recovery in lake systems, environmental change of Arctic lakes and the study of long-term environmental and climatic change in lakes from different regions.
