Selective medical reporting
Sergio Sismondo, expert in the philosophy of science coined the term ‘ghost management’ to describe what he sees as a disturbing trend: pharmaceutical companies and their agents controlling or shaping multiple steps in the research, analysis, writing and publication of medical journal articles.
In September 2007 Dr. Sismondo authored a study published in PloS Medicine that suggests between 18 and 40 per cent of journal articles on recent drugs may be managed in a way that allows pharmaceutical companies to ‘shape’ the article.
