Target to buy Zellers

Queen’s University School of Business professor Ken Wong is available to discuss Target’s announcement today that it is buying 150 Zellers stores for $1.8 billion.

Dr. Wong is an expert in marketing and retail and says today’s news is very much like Walmart buying Woolco.

“Zellers: Where low price real estate is the law. The Zellers’ brand is not being sold as much as the stores’ location. Zellers has been able to negotiate long-term leases at affordable rates so a lot of this takeover is about location, location, location,” says Dr. Wong.
