Wendi Deng's fake Twitter account

Queen’s University professor and social media expert Sidneyeve Matrix is available to talk about Wendi Deng’s (Rupert Murdoch’s wife) fake Twitter account. The story is getting a lot of media attention because Twitter verified the account – meaning it guaranteed the account belonged to Wendi Deng.

Dr. Matrix feels the successful hoax harms Twitter’s credibility.

“This is a bit of a black eye for Twitter. Authenticity is in such short supply in social media that we rely on companies like Twitter or Facebook to do some of the work for us when it comes to following celebrities on-line,” says Dr. Matrix, who specializes in digital culture and technology.

Please note Dr. Matrix is available for phone interview only.
