Green Chemistry prof named top innovator

Chemistry professor Philip Jessop, Canada Research Chair in Green Chemistry, is featured in the April “innovation” issue of New Technology Magazine as one of the country's leading innovators in the oil and gas industry. Of eight people profiled, Dr. Jessop and University of Waterloo professor Maurice Dusseault are the only academic selections.

Dr. Jessop is technical director of the new, $9.1-million GreenCentre Canada, a National Centre of Excellence located at Queen's, which will bring together Canada's leading green chemistry researchers, industry partners and commercialization professionals to develop cleaner, less energy-intensive solutions for traditional chemical and manufacturing processes. He recently received the John C. Polanyi Award in recognition of his research developing a reversible method of bringing together oil and water using carbon dioxide as a trigger, and then separating them again when needed, using air.

New Technology magazine reports on new and cost-saving technologies in the oil and gas industry. The magazine, published eight times a year, is recognized throughout the industry for delivering informative and timely articles on drilling and completions, information technology, pipelines, production, heavy oil and oil sands, seismic and geophysical technologies, and the environment.
