Students display technology creativity
This Friday, July 25 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, Technological Education students will display their community-based projects on Student Street, Duncan McArthur Hall, West Campus.
Projects include a cable-car display and other creative solutions.
Used in some Ontario school technological education classes, the community-based project approach is based on solving problems related to human need and addresses social, economic and environmental concerns relating to technology.
It relates the world outside of secondary school to life inside school, making school meaningful, motivating, and engaging to students.
This pedagogical approach is the basis for a course in the teacher education program at Queen's entitled, Curriculum Development in Technological Education. Teacher candidates develop a project for an identified need of a community member. Upon graduation, they can use the pedagogy and techniques learned to develop and complete community-based projects in their own secondary school classrooms.
