Flags at half staff in memory of Professor Emeritus Arthur Fox
The Queen’s flags will be lowered today and remain lowered until Tuesday, May 25 in honour of Professor Emeritus Arthur M. Fox, who passed away on May 18 at St. Mary’s of the Lake Hospital in Kingston.
Professor Fox (Spanish Language and Literature) came to Queen’s in September 1941 on an eight month appointment to Professor J.H. Brovedani in the era of Principal R.C. Wallace and Registrar Jean Royce. Following service in the Canadian Army during World War II, he taught at Khaki University of Canada (Leavesdon, Herts., UK) from August 1945 until June 1946. He rejoined the faculty at Queen’s later that year and retired in 1982.
A memorial service in celebration of Professor Fox’s life will be held on May 22 at noon at Chalmers United Church, 212 Barrie Street, with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to University Hospitals Kingston Foundation, directed towards the Cancer Centre.
