Feedback solicited on new academic plan website
A new interactive website will give members of the Queen’s community an opportunity to contribute to the university’s evolving Academic Plan.
The site is administered by the Senate Academic Planning Task Force, which began meetings last month and aims to produce the plan by the end of April. The website will provide continuing updates on proposed content of the plan. Visitors to the site are encouraged to submit online feedback related to each section, as well as their overall comments.
“This is very much a work in progress – but it has a defined end date!” says task force chair, Professor Peter Taylor (Mathematics and Statistics, Biology, Education). “We welcome and encourage members of Queen’s community of students, faculty and staff to provide their feedback and become involved in this important discussion.”
“I’m excited to see that the committee has made the revitalization of our university’s undergraduate mission a priority,” says student task force member Chris Rudnicki, BAH ’11 and AMS Vice-President (University Affairs). “I look forward to engaging the undergraduate student body in discussion around some of the ideas discussed in task force meetings.”
"It's been an honour to work with a group that is genuinely concerned about the future direction of the university,” adds Senator Iain Reeve, PhD '13, the graduate and professional student representative on the task force. “Our discussions have been very fruitful and stimulating, but the next step – engaging the Queen's community directly – is essential to craft a plan that is truly representative of our identity, goals, and aspirations.”
Using the Principal’s vision document, Where Next, and the Academic Writing Team’s report, Imagining the Future as a foundation, the Task Force will develop the final version of Queen's academic plan, to go to University Senate for approval.
At the upcoming Senate meeting on Thursday Feb. 17, the Task Force will initiate a discussion on their progress to date.
