CUPE ratification votes set
Members of the three campus locals of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) will vote Thursday August 18 on the tentative agreements reached earlier this month between the union and the university.
The union will hold three separate ratification meetings, one for each local.
The ratification meetings will be held in Dunning Hall auditorium at the following times:
Local 229: 8:00 a.m – 9:30 a.m.
Local 1302: 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Local 254: 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
All managers are encouraged to ensure CUPE members are able to participate in the appropriate meeting.
Details of the new agreements will be released publicly after they are ratified by employees in each bargaining unit and the university’s Board of Trustees.
Staff with questions about the ratification process can contact their union representative.
CUPE collectively represents approximately 430 university staff who are technicians (Local 254), library technicians (Local 1302) and a number of employees in Physical Plant Services, Residence Operations and Athletics & Recreation (Local 229).
Six collective agreements have been successfully negotiated at Queen’s this year.
In addition to the three agreements with CUPE, Queen’s and the Queen’s University Faculty Association reached a tentative deal on August 15, which is subject to ratification.
In June, the university and the Ontario Nurses Association ratified a first contract for the nurses in Queen’s Family Health Team, and in May, the university and the Public Service Alliance of Canada approved a first contract for graduate teaching assistants and teaching fellows.
