New HR learning catalogue takes a holistic approach
Human Resources offers a wide range of workshops designed to expand and enhance the skills of Queen’s staff. This year, a variety of new offerings will provide opportunities for employees to focus on their personal health as well as their career skills.
“We’re aiming to meet the changing needs of our staff,” says Shannon Hill, Learning and Development Specialist. “We’re incorporating topics like self-assessment and emotional self-health to ensure that employees have both the technical skills they require to excel in their jobs and resources to enhance their personal well-being.”
Workshops are led by HR staff and experts from the community. This year’s new workshop offerings include: The Evolving Self, which focuses on well-being and self-discovery; Organize Your Office so it Works For You, which teaches organizational styles and strategies that help maximize productivity and effectiveness; Bridging the Generation Gap at Work, which explores the characteristics and strengths of each generation; and Advanced Customer Service: Dealing with Difficult Customers, which provides strategies and approaches to enhance customer service knowledge.
Employees can also work towards a certificate by completing specific workshops. Certificates include a Certificate in Workplace Communications, Certificate in International Perspectives, and Administrative Professional at Queen’s.
Staff members will again have the opportunity to stretch at lunch with yoga and strength training workshops, which were extremely popular in the summer. Workshops often fill up, so employees are encouraged to look at the calendar and plan ahead.
Workshops run from September to June and are open to all Queen’s staff members.
