New administrative system to streamline hiring process
The PeopleSoft system will facilitate fast and efficient hiring procedures for those who enter employment data.
“The new system comes with many advantages, one of which is the ability to perform a variety of functions using a single application,” says Julie Mekarski, Director, Client Services, Human Resources.
In some cases, PeopleSoft will eliminate the need for paper forms with respect to hiring. Most users will be able to use the online system, making the process much faster.
Specific directions for users vary depending on the type of hire:
For hiring casuals, the contract hire system within HR PeopleSoft will replace the current salary requisition system. Individuals who have been identified as Departmental HR Administrators will have security access to HR PeopleSoft to enter hire details for casual employees. Hours are then reported through the time and labour timesheet by the timekeeper for each pay.
For hiring student teaching assistants or research assistants, the HR PeopleSoft system will replace the current student contract system. The Departmental HR Administrators will also process hire contracts for these individuals.
For hiring research employees, the contract hire system within HR PeopleSoft will replace the current paper form used for this process. The Departmental HR Administrator can enter hire details once a job evaluation is completed and the position is set up by Human Resources. Budget approval is no longer required before data entry; approvals by Principal Investigators and Department Heads will be done online. Research accounting will then monitor accounts for over-expenditures through reporting tools.
All post-doctoral fellow appointments will continue to be processed by Human Resources. A revised paper form will be available to departments.
All staff appointments will continue to be processed by Human Resources, and faculty appointments will continue to be processed through various faculty offices.
