Preparations underway for new department codes
ITServices is supporting the transition to a new structure for department codes that is part of HR PeopleSoft, the new human resources administrative system that’s set to launch next month.
Department codes can be used to give groups of individuals access to ITServices applications such as QShare or the Queen’s Wiki. Department codes can also be used to manage access permissions to other applications not administered by ITServices. ITServices also uses department codes to generate data feeds for campus units.
“Most of the impacted applications are owned by ITServices, and modifications are well underway to make them compatible with the new department codes,” says Gail Ferland, Acting Manager, Infrastructure Services, ITServices. “In addition, ITServices is working closely with the owners of other affected applications on campus to support them during this change.”
The new department codes have been published, and application owners can modify their applications to use the new codes. However, the changes will not come into effect until after HR PeopleSoft is implemented February 17-19.
To ease the transition, the old department codes will remain available and will continue to work through to March 20. During this time, application owners can test the new codes without disrupting users’ access to applications. Staffing changes during the interim period will not be reflected in the old department codes because these codes will be frozen once the new HR administrative system is launched.
Detailed information can be found in the Queen’s Wiki. If you have any questions about the changes or how to modify your applications, contact the IT Support Centre at (613) 533-6666 or fill out an online help form.
