Nominations requested for equity, human rights awards
The Equity and Human Rights offices are presenting several awards to honour the achievements of individuals and groups on campus who have made significant contributions to university life in the areas of accessibility, equity and human rights.
Three awards – the Employment Equity Award, the Human Rights Initiative Award, and the Steve Cutway Accessibility Award – will be presented early next year. Nominations can be submitted to the Equity Office until January 12.
“These awards give us the opportunity to seek out the very important work of people across campus who help ensure that Queen’s is an equitable and inclusive place to work and study,” says Irène Bujara, Director, Human Rights and Equity Offices. “This work often goes unrecognized, and so it is a great honour to present these awards and acknowledge the outstanding contributions of our community members.”
The annual Employment Equity Award was established in 2011. It recognizes and celebrates the achievements of individuals, groups or organizations that are going above and beyond legislated requirements or their institutional mandate to help Queen’s become a truly representative and inclusive workplace.
The annual Human Rights Initiative Award, established in 2002, is given in recognition of initiatives that have made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of equality and human rights at Queen’s.
The Steve Cutway Accessibility Award, established in 2008, recognizes the outstanding contributions of faculty, staff and students towards advancing accessibility for persons with disabilities at Queen's.
