After months of in-depth study and extensive consultation, the draft content of the Campus Master Plan (CMP) will be presented to the Queen’s community at the Campus and Community Open House #2 on Friday Dec. 6. The CMP will provide an aspirational vision to guide the evolution of the campus over the next 10 to 15 years.
“The physical campus is a vital part of Queen’s heritage and identity, and we have a responsibility to act as stewards of this remarkable physical legacy,” says Laeeque Daneshmend, Deputy Provost. “The Campus Master Plan does not presuppose growth, but it will provide a framework to ensure that any future development on campus will support Queen’s in delivering a transformative student experience in a research intensive environment.”
The project to update Queen’s CMP began in December 2012 with a wide consultation process led by the Queen’s planning consultant team, Urban Strategies Inc. This process included campus and community stakeholder interviews, a visioning session, as well as two public events: the Plan Your Campus information exchange held in March and the Campus and Community Open House #1 held in May.
The CMP is guided by six key planning principles that inform its recommendations:
The Campus and Community Open House #2, which will present the draft content of the Campus Master Plan, will be held Friday, Dec. 6 in the Biosciences Complex Atrium from 2 to 6 pm. Material from the open house will be made available on the CMP website, and feedback from the Queen’s community is invited.
“I believe that the CMP will provide a compelling vision to ensure preservation of the unique character of our campus while identifying areas for improvement and potential future development,” says Deputy Provost Daneshmend. “December’s open house will be an opportunity for everyone who has an interest in the CMP to learn about its findings and draft recommendations, and to discuss these directly with our consultant team.”
