2015 Discovery Grant Information for Queen’s Applicants

Applying this year? Please contact vmk@queensu.ca to be added to the mailing list so that you will get updates from NSERC, updates about info sessions, resource documents, etc. The Discovery Applicant Mailing list will start before the end of May.

IMPORTANT: Submission of the NOI by August 3 is MANDATORY -- no NOI, no application.

Recent NSERC Updates:
     - As of 2015, there will no longer be Discovery Team grants, only individual applications will be possible
     - The CCV now allows formatting (boldface etc.) in certain sections
     - They have made it easier to enter scientific symbols

Additional Resources for the Full Application Stage

The application forms won't be available until fairly late in the summer, so just use the NSERC section-by-section instructions,

and prepare all the sections in a separate document until you are able to copy-paste them into the application form. The character counts mentioned in the instructions do not include spaces.

     NSERC's Peer Review Manual: Chapter 6 explains how your proposal will get evaluated, and even includes the score sheet the reviewers will use.

Preliminary Timeline for Queen's Applicants

June 10, 10-11:30 a.m. in Biosciences 1102
Info-session for Discovery applicants presentations by Drs. Steve Hughes and Philip Jessop.

August 3, 2015, 8 p.m.

PIs have to submit a NOI and their CCVs on the NSERC portal. The NOI is MANDATORY.You will not be able to apply if you do not submit a NOI before Aug 3.

Info-session for Discovery applicants

July - September 25, 2015

PIs who wish to receive a review of their DG proposal by URS staff can email their proposal & various sections to vmk@queensu.ca. Highly recommended for all applicants.

Thursday October 15, 2015

TRAQ DSS submitted by PI (2 weeks earlier if your resesarch is hospital-based)

Wednesday October 28, 2015

Last day for Queen's researchers to submit their proposal (all parts) on the NSERC Portal.

URS staff will do completeness/guideline checks on all proposals, as time permits.
