Department Heads should review grant proposals before proposal approval for the indicated commitments of departmental resources in the grant (faculty time, lab space, etc.).
Department Heads are required to approve the Data Summary & Signature (DSS) submissions electronically before the application can be submitted. Hardcopy signatures are not required.
If a Department Head is also an applicant or co-applicant on an internally led grant then Departmental authority must be acquired from an equivalent Departmental Authority or from a Dean/Associate Dean (Research).
In those cases where a grant proposal or research agreement budget deviates significantly from Queen's standard policies, the lead investigator will be directed to acquire a Department Head signature authorizing a policy variance - final approval for variances are granted at the discretion of the Office of Research Services and the Vice-Principal (Research).
