THE PHILOSOPHY COLLOQUIUM SERIES 2015-16

PRESENTS

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2015

WATSON HALL, ROOM 517 @ 4:00 p.m.

Rockney Jacobsen (Wilfred Laurier University)

Title:  “Making Epistemologists Nervous: Relational Memory and Psychological Individualism”

ABSTRACT

I begin with a sympathetic re-framing of Sue Campbell's relational theory of memory (as developed in Relational Remembering [2003], and in essays collected posthumously in Our Faithfulness to the Past [2014]). I then consider whether a relational account of memory is committed to the Extended Mind Thesis (of Andy Clark and David Chalmers) and, in a final section, I formulate and address an objection to relational accounts of cognition and memory.

EVERYONE WELCOME
