Students in courses offered by the Philosophy Department will normally receive letter grades in seminars and a combination of letter grades and numeric grades in lectures. Typically, essays and similar will be graded by letter, while tests and similar will be graded numerically. Instructors will announce which assignments, if any, will be graded numerically. Two charts of grade descriptors have been prepared to help you understand your grade: a Short Descriptors Chart, and a Long Descriptors Chart.
For the purposes of calculating your course average, letter grades on individual assignments will be translated temporarily into numerical values using the Faculty of Arts and Science approved scale: Arts and Science Letter Grade Input Scheme.
Your course average will be converted to a final letter grade according to Queen's Official Grade Conversion Scale: Queen’s Official Grade Conversion Scale.
Only the final letter grade will appear on your transcript and be used to calculate your GPA.
