A Biography of Arthur Stanley Eddington

Bio of Arthur Stanley Eddington

This definitive biography of Arthur Stanley Eddington, a British astronomer and mathematician, was written by Allie Vibert Douglas, a Canadian who had earned her Ph.D. through her work with Eddington.

Eddington is famous for his work regarding relativity and he was one of the first to announce and explain Einstein’s relativity to the English-speaking world. His 1919 solar eclipse expedition provided one of the earliest confirmations of relativity. A. Vibert Douglas served as a professor of Astronomy at Queen’s University from 1946 until her retirement in 1964. Dr. Douglas was responsible for the creation of the current Queen’s observatory.
