Departmental Colloquium - The Dynamic Function of Multi-Articular Joints

Michael J Rainbow, PhD.
Assistant Professor,
Mechanical & Materials Engineering

Friday  January 27th, 2017
1:30 p.m. Theatre A

Abstract:

During this talk, I will outline my emerging research program aimed at understanding the in vivo function of multi-articular joints using imaging, motion analysis, and biomechanical modeling. I will describe some of our previous work that was aimed at understanding the mechanics of the healthy and pathological wrist. I will also discuss some of our research questions about the mechanical function of the foot and the patellofemoral joint, along with some of the approaches we are using to answer them. Finally, I will discuss the new High-Speed Skeletal Imaging Laboratory at Hotel Dieu Hospital, and explain how it will enable us to measure the dynamic function of the musculoskeletal system in new detail.
